Mary Balogh evokes all the passion and splendor of Victorian London. No, cancel Yes, report it Thanks! What to Do With a Duke. It starts out a light, cheerful, and fun opposites-meet and meddling-parents story, with better prose than some of Balogh’s earlier works, and then it goes straight into dark and dubcon, with a alphahole hero who of course, this is romance mostly gets over the jerkass but not over the controlling and over the sense that the world revolves around him.

The way they behaved was reminder enough of what were their demons, I didn’t need to be told over and over in the same and slightly changed narrative. He amado todos los personajes secundarios y he sentido pena y rabia por otros. It was almost painful to read for you are worried that the heroine I will definitely read the sequel, Silent Melody. This is a book that could be reread many times and I doubt it would get old. Lucas is a Georgian metrosexual back in London to take his place as Duke after many estranged years in Paris after he almost killed his older brother in a duel over a woman.
In the end it all just seemed very predictable and that is a shame because if this story was done right it could have been a five star read.

But heartlesss way better than book 2! I also couldn’t get into their chemistry and relationship, it was weird. Boy that scene was pretty hot that makes me feel kind of guilty to say that, but it was. I did jump ahead and read the last chapter or two so I know the resolution. He wore heels and extravagant clothes, he powdered his hair, he carried a fan! The whole stalker thing could have been solved with a 2 sentence conversation.
You really feel for her, and you wish for her to open up to Lucas about her issues, but she’s afraid to. I am an impatient reader with a decisive personality. Books by Mary Balogh. Luke’s brother Ashley, young and a little wild, and needing a father or brother figure in his life.

But Anna maintains a weird cheerful attitude and refuses to share. Surprisingly, he improved in the second half of the book. How I could have given this 5 stars.
I really dislike that particular trope, and find it dull and lazy and infuriating. Probably the worst heroine. But I think the real power in it is the saving of the delightful Anna from her horrid former life, and the redeeming of Luke himself.
A good feeling when I started this 14 hrs audiobook narrated by Rosalyn Landor a heartldss favorite but I’m must admit this wasn’t one of Balogh’s better.

He never felt particularly dangerous or unpredictable. Want to Read saving…. I only kept reading because I was so amazed that Balogh was determined to spin this out for so long.

As the story progressed and the opportunities for her to confess all came and went listening to this became painful. The Earl Takes All. A couple of years ago I picked up Heartlessthe first book I had ever read by Mary Balogh and went into the lost-in-a book zone. But in their hearts, their dreams would never die Anna is not ugly, but is rather modest in her looks, but something about her appeals to Lucas. Those moving moments are so beautifully written.
